Monika Pichler’s exhibition at ZETA, Center for Contemporary Art in Tirana, is all about water. Most of her works presented were created after a journey along the Vjosa River, the last large wild river in Europe. Monika Pichler takes photographs and collects material, which she assembles into new spaces and constellations,
transferring them to fabric or stone. She works with textiles, velvet and silk, linen, and stone. The works are created using screen printing techniques combined with colorizing. She uses montage – not only formally and aesthetically, but also in terms of content. Pichler’s montages are journeys into sections of the world, arranged unrealistically, referencing other realities.

Monika Pichler is a visual artist and professor at the University of Arts in Linz, Austria.
She is the head of the screen print studio at the Painting & Graphic Art department. For more than thirty years, she has worked with the technique of screenprint, which she uses to transfer her photos and montages onto different materials. Monika Pichler was born in Hallein. She grew up in Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Linz. She lives and works in Linz and Vienna.
