Paradiz. Economies of Sand by Bora Baboçi, curated by Arnold Braho, presented at Galeria e Bregdetit in the Bay of Vlorë, finds its starting point in a body of archival materials related to expeditions of the Albanian Coast carried out in the 1980s, when these territories were still largely militarized and inaccessible to public.

This exhibition aims to analize the actual conditions and possible futurities of the shoreline before and after it had fully emerged as a landscape in the contemporary sense. Within this context, the project brings together a new body of work where sand becomes the guiding thread of the project: a material, an infrastructure, and a surface through which to observe the economies that shape the territory and continuously redefine both its natural and infrastructural boundaries.

The accompanying publication brings together multiple voices, each opening onto a different dimension of the research. Together, they present a kind of critical fabulation around the coast, its off-season ruins, and the movements that continue beyond human presence. Here, the economy of sand is also the movement of sand itself: where is this land coming from?
